Walrus and Carpenter Oysters is looking to hire a farm manager to join our team. Our farms are located in Dutch Harbor in Jamestown, RI and in Point Judith Pond in Narragansett, RI. We also have a shop used as our processing facility, office space, and workshop located in Galilee, RI. Our mission is to farm the ocean, restore our estuaries, and feed our community. We sell direct to RI restaurants to provide fresh, local seafood to our state, as well nationally through our wholesale distributors. Every year, we build oyster reefs in conjunction with USDA restoration projects in hopes of bringing back wild oyster populations in RI. Oyster farming is one of the most sustainable ways of harvesting seafood as our gear and practices have very low impacts on the environment and oysters are great for cleaning our local waterways.

The role would include responsibilities such as but not limited to:

• Maintaining farm logs such as harvest logs, shipping logs, and farm maps

• Assisting the Farm Director and Administrative Director

• Harvesting and processing oysters for market

• Drying gear to prevent biofouling (must be a competent swimmer and comfortable with winter ocean temperatures, we provide a wetsuit/booties/gloves)

• Being a great teammate and problem solver, as well the ability to make quick decisions on the water and on boats

• Delivering to restaurants in Rhode Island in the company vehicle 

Preferred Qualifications:

• 5+ years of oyster farm/aquaculture experience

• 5+ years of boating experience 

• Strong understanding of oyster farming equipment, gear, and farming methods

• Managerial experience

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

• Interest in raw bar/event management 

Employment Specifications:

• This role has a tentative start date of Dec 1, 2025 and will be a year-round position

•  The position starts at $22/hr, commensurate with experience

• Between May and October, we work 40+ hours a week and between November and April we average 30 hours per week
